Laxmi Narayan Temple, otherwise called Birla Mandir, is one of Delhi’s significant sanctuaries and a noteworthy vacation destination. Worked by the industrialist Sh. J.K. Birla in 1939, this delightful sanctuary is situated in the west of Connaught Place.

The temple is dedicated to Laxmi (the goddess of prosperity) and Narayana (The Preserver). Mahatma Gandhi inaugurated the temple only on the condition that people of all the castes would be permitted to enter the temple.

The temple was worked by industrialist Baldeo Das Birla. The development of this temple began in the year 1933 and was introduced by Mahatma Gandhi in 1939 on the condition that individuals of all positions will be permitted in the temple. The side temples are devoted to Shiva, Krishna, and Buddha. The sanctuary spread more than 7.5 sections of land and is adorned with many shrines, huge greenery enclosures, and Gita Bhawan.

The three-storied temple is constructed in Nagara style of Hindu temple design. Hundreds of skilled worker from Benares headed by Acharya Vishwanath Shastri craved the idols of the temple. The icons of the temple were made of marble brought from Jaipur. Kota stone from Makarana, Agra, Kota, and Jaisalmer was utilized as a part of the development of sanctuary premises. Birla Mandir Delhi attracts huge devotees on the Hindu celebrations of Janmashtami and Diwali.

Lakshmi Narayan Mandir is constructed wonderfully, with a modern touch. Embellishing the insides of the temple are excellent carvings depicting the scenes from mythology. Various Hindu symbols and quotes from the Gita and the Upanishads ornament the temple walls.

The most noteworthy Shikara (tower) in the sanctuary takes off to a height of 165 ft, while the subordinate one is around 116 ft. The main shrine is dedicated to Lord Narayan and Goddess Lakshmi, while the smaller ones are of Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesha and Lord Hanuman and Goddess Durga.
