After Gangotri And Yamunotri, Portals Of Baba Kedarnath Temple opened
Portals of the Kedarnath temple were opened at 6:10 am today. Darshan’ for the devotees is not allowed at the temple as of now. Except for 16 people including the head priest, no devotees are allowed in the temple due to COVID19.
The portals of the Kedarnath temple, remain closed for around 6 months due to the heavy snowfall. After the closing of the portals, the idol of Lord Kedarnath is shifted to his winter abode of Ukhimath, where the deity is worshipped for the next 6 months.
Earlier on Sunday (26 April), the palanquin (Doli) carrying the idol of Baba Kedarnath began its journey from Ukhimath to the temple.
Although, due to the nationwide lockdown, the pilgrimage to the Chardham, including the Kedarnath shrine is not allowed.

The date for the reopening ceremony of Kedarnath was changed to May 14 yesterday by the government authorities of Uttarakhand. However, this decision was not welcomed by the priest community.
Sources say that the Teerth Purohit said that it is not auspicious to change the date of the reopening ceremony of Kedarnath’s doors. They also emphasized that if the date is changed for reopening the Kedarnath temple, they will have to change the reopening date for Madhyamaheshwar Temple as well as Tungnath Temple too.
The reopening dates for the remaining two temples have been decided for May 11 and May 20.
When will the Kedarnath Shrine open for pilgrims?
As of now, the Darshan for the pilgrims in the temple will not be allowed due to the ongoing lockdown.
